History
Onneley Village Hall was originally built as a School and Chapel in 1871 by Lord Wilton. The Chapel was the Mission Church of St. Chad and is on the right hand side of the building. The Onneley Church of England Primary School ceased to be viable and closed in 1966. The church is now Onneley Village Hall.
The hall was put into trust on 19th September 1967, in the name of the vicar and church wardens of Madeley Church stating ‘to the intent that the inhabitants at large of the village of Onneley, shall forever hereafter have a community centre, and a mission church’.
As the financial burden of running and maintaining the new village hall fell upon the residents of Onneley, a village hall committee was formed. A succession of resilient villagers have joined the committee over the years to help manage and maintain the hall.
Today the village hall is in very good condition with a healthy bank balance, thanks to the past and current village hall committee.
